| How to check and configure your Windows XP security settings: If you have Microsoft Windows XP SP2 (Service Pack 2) you can easily check and configure it's built-in security settings by using the Windows Security Center How do I open the Windows Security Center? • Click the Start button at the lower left of your screen, then click Control Panel. In the Control Panel, double click the Security Center icon The Microsoft Windows XP Security Center The Windows XP Security Center checks for the following things on your computer: • A software Firewall • An anti virus program (and that it is up to date) • Your Automatic Updates to ensure it is set to automatic If the Windows XP Security Center detects a problem, it will show an alert in the Windows notification area (the area in the lower right of your screen, next to the clock). The Windows Security Alert will describe the problem and make recommendations to correct the threat. To find out more information about the problem, or how to fix it, click the alert message bubble to open the Security Center, then click Recommendations. What does the Windows Security Center check for? The Windows XP Security Center checks for commonly installed firewall and antivirus programs to ensure they are running and are up to date. It is possible, if you are using an older version of antivirus or firewall software that the Windows Security Center may not properly identify and recognize them. If this is the case, you may need to upgrade to a newer version of firewall or antivirus software before the Security Center can properly identify and monitor it. |
